The popular uprising against Cuba’s totalitarian communist dictatorship has been a source of bad media coverage and what is silly, but Telemundo’s morning anchor has rushed to the top of the foul pile with its use of protests of SOS Cuba as an instrument with which to strike Republicans in Texas’ electoral security legislation.
Watch Nacho Lozano bizarrely tie the two together on the Hoy Día morning show, and note what Republicans tweets are displayed as he continues his rant:
NACHO LOZANO, TELEMUNDO: In Cuba, they cannot vote for their government employees. Yes, because the administrators, the civil servants, are elected at the polls. That is, those who take office to serve their bosses – who are the voters. In Cuba, it is the reverse. Which, by the way, Republican lawmakers in the United States recently condemned the restrictions on the island (of Cuba) – and I remembered legislation that seeks to restrict (voting rights) in Texas as well as in a dozen states, but hey … that’s a whole other restrictive ball of wax.
Lozano vomits his point in the middle of an on-air editorial in support of Cuba’s struggle for freedom. But the corporate media doesn’t miss an opportunity to shoot Republicans, even if it means doing so at the expense of bloody Cubans. To make matters worse, the tweets aired are those of US senators. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX).
Through a series of editorial decisions, Telemundo has seen fit to subconsciously tie Rubio and Cruz to the communist dictatorship of Cuba for a cheap and misinformation dunk on Texas Election Security Law, which cannot be considered “restrictive.” only if you take emergency measures in the event of a pandemic. (like drive-thru voting in Harris County, TX) the benchmark as opposed to the ACT currently in effect.
The segment further proves that there is no greater spreader of disinformation in the Spanish language than the Latin American corporate media. The cheap comparison of Texas election legislation to Cuba’s brutal Communist dictatorship adds insult to the dull wound.
